First Annual International Conference of the COST ACTION FA1106

The main part of this first annual meeting was dedicated to the presentation of the partners of the COST and their scientific expertise in the field. Scientists from 18 European countries* presented the current status of research in their countries on fleshy fruit quality of tomato and grape as well as facilities which can be used by the partners. Interesting discussions took place and all the participants were up-dated on the current status of research in Europe on these topics.
The local organizer Dr. K. Panagiotis gave a presentation to welcome the participants to the annual meeting. Then the Chair and the Vice Chair of the COST action, Professors Mondher Bouzayen and Mario Pezzotti presented an overview of the objectives and aims as an introduction for the participants. This presentation was followed by two keynote addresses by Dr M. Bouzayen and Dr. S. Delrot on the current state of the art on climacteric and non-climacteric ripening.
The second half of the second day was dedicated on the four working groups. Participants selected working groups while the coordinators set the initial agenda and topics of interest. The course of action was decided for each working group and the outcomes were presented in a plenary session. In addition, another three COST actions were presented in order to introduce the philosophy and the tasks undertaken.
At the third day of the meeting, the Managing Committee discussed issues related to the next annual meeting as well as the number of representatives participating in the MC meetings.
